infractions register

As a first stage, this page intends to provide as complete as possible information on fisheries infractions licences by country and by year. The origin of this information is diverse, and can stem from organs responsible for fisheries surveillance at SRFC State level, or from SOCU (in charge of sub-regional fisheries surveillance activities [learn more...]), or from press releases and other regional or international news boards. In each case, the source of the information will be indicated. It is important to note that the link between fisheries agreements (agreements in all their forms) and IUU fishing is an intimate one, and that it is often vessels licensed in one member State that decide to fish without a license (illegally) in a neighbouring State, etc. In a second step, and as a function of the quality of the data received from fisheries administrations of the sub-region and the SRFC itself, it is foreseen to build a consolidated regional infractions data base, which will enable direct analysis of IUU fishing distribution, and to consult the infractions register by vessel, operator, flag, type of infraction, etc. – by country and by year, or for the entire region globally. This type of information should always be considered when assigning fishing rights to foreign entities that already have a history of infractions in the region – and to refuse, in given cases, the concession of licences to entities with severe re-incidence records. and one of the basic working tools that will enable the informed and sustainable management of the fisheries resources of the sub-region.
